Introducing the national priorities for protecting rare and threatened native biodiversity on private land

The New Zealand Biodiversity Strategy has brought particular focus for the need to protect a wide range of threatened indigenous habitat on private land. A Statement of National Priorities was developed (by DOC and MfE) in 2007 to guide decision-making around biodiversity protection on private land.  Four national priorities in the statement identify the types of ecosystems and habitats most in need of protection.
